In a valley between two mountains on the East coast of Acheron, there lies an ancient tribe of minotaurs. With numbers rumored to be in the several hundreds, the tribe has remained untouched by outsiders for as long as anyone in Acheron can remember.
Not unlike a force of nature, the minotaurs exist completely separately from the kingdom, coming and going as they wish, giving no heed to traders or governments. Once, when the Oruss river was in danger of being blocked by an earthquake where it runs under the mountain, the tribe tunneled through the base of the mountain, creating a permanent cavern through which the river can freely flow to its mouth. They probably did it to protect their valley from flooding, but the act had huge benefits for the entire kingdom. However, they are also as dangerous as a force of nature. Seemingly in balance with their benevolent act of saving the river, the tribe once sent out a huge raiding party into the south of Acheron, killing more than a hundred people, and razing several settlements. The only reason the Royal Army wasn’t marched straight into that valley seeking justice is that all of the settlements consisted entirely of bandits who plagued the North and had tried to raid the valley for resources. Believing the tribe was only lashing out at their attackers, the king saw no need to fight an uphill battle into the Minotaurs’ Keep.
Aside from these major events, almost nothing is known of the minotaurs, their society, or their history. The only thing that is absolutely clear is that the mountains and the valley are the territory of the tribe and no one is interested in changing that.
